Palace Denies Prince Andrew Sex Claims

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 03 Januari 2015 | 16.08

Buckingham Palace has issued a strongly worded denial of allegations that Prince Andrew was involved in "impropriety with underage minors".

The statement was released after the Duke of York was named in a US lawsuit.

The woman who has made the allegations claims the disgraced US banker Jeffrey Epstein loaned her out to his friends, including Prince Andrew.

Papers filed by her lawyers say she was held as a "sex slave" by Epstein from 1999 through 2002 after he "became enamoured" with her.

In the motion filed in a court in Florida, she claims she was "forced to have sexual relations with this prince when she was a minor" in London, New York and on a private Caribbean island. She is believed to have been 17 at the time - underage according to US law.

The document continues: "Epstein instructed Jane Doe #3 that she was to give the Prince whatever he demanded and required Jane Doe #3 to report back to him on the details of the sexual abuse."

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous and is referred to as Jane Doe 3 in documents, says Epstein, who has been jailed for having sex with a 14-year-old, forced her to have sexual encounters against her will between 1999 and 2002.

In the papers, she claims she was effectively recruited for Epstein's use by Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of the late media tycoon Robert Maxwell, when she was 15 years old.

And it is claimed in the court document that Ms Maxwell "was one of the main women whom Epstein used to procure under-aged girls for sexual activities".

The document also claims Epstein's "purposes in 'lending' Jane Doe to such powerful people were to ingratiate himself with them for business, personal, political and financial gain, as well as to obtain potential blackmail information".

Buckingham Palace said: "This relates to long-standing and ongoing civil proceedings in the United States, to which the Duke of York is not a party. As such we would not comment in detail. However, for the avoidance of doubt, any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue."

Prince Andrew's friendship with Epstein is well-documented and in an interview in 2011 he denied any sexual contact with any of the young women connected to the multi-millionaire banker.

Sky News Correspondent Rhiannon Mills said: "It's important to point out that we have in the past seen Prince Andrew criticised for spending time with Epstein, including in December 2010 after he was released from prison."

Epstein was jailed in 2008 and spent 13 months in jail after admitting to having sex with a 14-year-old.

He had been investigated for paying underage girls to have sex with him at his luxury Palm Beach home - and 40 women had come forward as victims.

However, he cut a deal with federal prosecutors and the charges were not progressed.

Two of his victims have now brought a case against the prosecutors claiming their rights were violated because they were not consulted on the secret deal.

Jane Doe 3 has applied to the court to be included in the lawsuit against the federal prosecutor and it is in the legal document to join the case that she makes the allegations against the Duke of York.

Sky News has attempted to reach Ms Maxwell for a response to the latest allegations.

When claims about the nature of her relationship with Epstein were reported in 2011, her lawyers issued a statement describing them as "entirely false".

'Big Objects Found' In AirAsia Plane Search

Two "large objects" have been spotted in the Java Sea around 90ft (30m) underwater, says the man leading the hunt for the AirAsia plane that crashed six days ago.

Fransiskus Bambang Soelistyo, chief of Indonesia's Search and Rescue Agency, told reporters: "I'm confident this is part of the AirAsia plane."

He said the agency was trying to get images of the objects for confirmation using remotely operated underwater vehicles, but high waves and strong currents were hampering efforts.

One of the objects measured at 31ft by 15ft (9.4m by 4.8m), Mr Soelistyo said. The second, found nearby, was 24ft (7.2m) by 20ins (0.5m).

Flight QZ8501 disappeared from radar screens over the Java Sea while en route from Indonesia's second-biggest city Surabaya to Singapore with 162 people on board.

So far, the bodies of 30 victims have been recovered from the sea. No survivors have been found.

Some of the bodies were discovered still strapped into their aircraft seats, officials involved in the search said.

Among the victims recovered were two children, according to reports. Only four have been identified and their bodies returned to their families.

There are now 65 ships, 14 planes and 19 helicopters involved in the search and rescue mission.

The Singaporean defence minister Ng Eng Hen posted pictures of window panels recovered from the sea on his Facebook page on Friday morning.

He wrote: "RSS Supreme recovered a piece of an aircraft this morning, likely to be a window panel. They have informed the Indonesian search authorities and will be handing over the item."

Sonar equipment and metal detectors are being used to try to discover the black box, which will help investigators establish what caused the plane to smash into the sea.

Bad weather is known to have contributed to the disaster, which came half way through the short haul flight.

The pilot had asked air traffic control for permission to climb the Airbus A320 to a higher altitude to avoid storm clouds but heavy air traffic meant this request was denied.

The black box data recorder contains crucial information such as engine temperature, vertical and horizontal speed.

The search team is also hunting for the voice recorder, which will have captured conversations between the pilot and others in the cockpit.

Mr Soelistyo estimated the fuselage would be lying at a depth of between 80ft-100ft (25m and 30m)

The victims identified and returned to their families are Hayati Lutfiah Hamid, flight attendant Khairunisa Haidar Fauzi and passengers Kevin Alexander Soetjipto and Grayson Herbert Linaksita.

Police were called to reports that a man had been attacked near London's Waterloo station at around 2.45am.

Officers and London Ambulance Service found a man in his 40s with serious head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 29-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder. He is in custody at a south London police station.

Scotland Yard said they are not looking for anyone else.

The victim has not yet been formally identified but police are in the process of informing next of kin.

Road closures and police cordons are in place around the scene of the killing, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "This is a very busy part of London frequented by both commuters and those on a night out.

"My team is keen to hear from anyone who was in the area or passing by at the time of this incident and may have witnessed what occurred or seen something that could assist the investigation.

"I would urge all witnesses and anyone with information to contact the incident room on 0208 721 4005 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Waterloo station saw 98.4 million entries and exits from passengers in 2013-14, according to figures from the Office of Rail Regulation.

A Hillsborough campaigner honoured in the New Year's Day list has told Sky News she believes the award is part of an apology from the establishment.

Margaret Aspinall, chairwoman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, described her CBE as "bitter sweet" and said she had doubts about accepting it.

Mrs Aspinall, who lost her son James, 18, in the tragedy, said she consulted a survivor about the award.

"I needed to talk to a survivor … and this survivor broke down and said 'Please, please accept it. It is part and parcel of an apology'," she said.

"I decided, when he said that, if that's what it does for him I hope it does the same for the rest of the survivors - that the establishment are acknowledging all these people who are stigmatised. To me, you can't refuse that."

AirAsia Jet: Bad Weather Stalls Rescue Effort

The rescue effort for AirAsia Flight QZ8501 has been suspended, after poor weather stopped divers from effectively searching the site of the crash.

Three bodies were recovered on Wednesday morning, including a flight attendant still in her uniform but 9ft (3m) high waves and strong winds have hampered the operation.

In total, six bodies have now been retrieved from the Java Sea - three men and three women.

One of the bodies was wearing a life jacket, suggesting the crew may have had time to prepare passengers for crashing into the sea.

The presence of fully-clothed passengers in the ocean could also indicate the Airbus A320 was intact when it hit the water.

"A shadow at the bottom of the sea in the form of a plane" was reported by an air force crew during a search on Tuesday.

The sighting has not been verified but search chief Henry Bambang Soelistyo said underwater sonar had identified what appeared to be large parts of the plane.

Joko Widodo, Indonesia's president, said his priority was recovering bodies from the Karimata Strait in the Java Sea, where rescuers have found debris including a plane door, luggage and an oxygen tank.

Mr Widodo said: "I feel a deep loss over this disaster and pray for the families to be given fortitude and strength."

AirAsia is offering an immediate advance of money to loved ones of the 155 passengers, with chief executive Tony Fernandes describing the incident as a "scar (that will be) with me for the rest of my life".

Ebola Screening To Be Reviewed After Nurse Case

Ebola screening protocols for travellers and healthcare workers returning from West Africa will be reviewed after a Scottish nurse developed the virus.

Pauline Cafferkey fell ill hours after she was given the all-clear at Heathrow Airport, despite raising fears about her temperature with officials at the airport.

The public health nurse's experience has prompted questions about the effectiveness of screening measures, with procedures at Heathrow branded "chaotic" by her colleagues.

Public Health England's Director For Health Protection and Medical Director Paul Cosford confirmed Mrs Cafferkey had complained about her temperature but said she was cleared to fly on to Glasgow after repeated tests failed to detect signs of an "unusual" temperature.

Dr Cosford said: "Naturally, we are keen to learn whatever we can from the emerging details of this case and will be reviewing what happened and the screening protocols, to see if anything needs to be changed."

Mrs Cafferkey was tested seven times altogether - including six times in the space of 30 minutes after raising concerns while waiting for her connecting flight to Scotland.

She took a taxi home from Glasgow Airport but raised the alarm later after developing a fever.

She was initially treated at Glasgow's Gartnavel Hospital before being transferred to a specialist unit at the Royal Free Hospital in north London.

Chief Medical Officer Professor Dame Sally Davies insisted screening was designed to raise public awareness about the virus and was not expected to detect every case of Ebola.

She said: "It does raise a question whether we should be more precautionary. The risk of raised temperature when she came back appears to have been very low.

"That's why we look at what we do all the time to see should we have been more precautionary, is it in the public's interest? Is it in the patient's interest?

At a press conference said she was not aware of reports that Mrs Cafferkey may have attended a Christmas Day church service ahead of her return to the UK, but that a review in to how she contracted the disease will be carried out by the Department for International Development and Save the Children.

Mrs Cafferkey is the second Briton to test positive and the first to do so on UK soil after nurse William Pooley, 29, contracted Ebola while volunteering in Sierra Leone in August before getting the all-clear following treatment at the Royal Free.

Prof Davies said she could be given blood plasma donations from Mr Pooley to help her overcome the virus, as the experimental drug ZMapp, which was used to treat him, is not currently available.

Meanwhile, a healthcare worker in Aberdeen who fell ill following her recent return from West Africa has tested negative for the virus, the Scottish Government has confirmed.

The woman was taken ill on Monday while visiting Torridon in the Scottish Highlands and transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she underwent tests.

A third patient from Cornwall who has also recently returned from an affected country is currently in isolation at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske, Truro, undergoing tests for the virus which has swept through West Africa.

Patient Assessed For Ebola Symptoms In Truro

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 30 Desember 2014 | 16.08

A patient is being assessed for possible symptoms of Ebola at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

The person is being kept in isolation and the result will be known in around 24 hours.

The patient had recently been in a high-risk Ebola area, although the exact location has not been revealed.

The tests are thought to be precautionary - more than 100 patients have tested negative in similar circumstances over the last few months.

Symptoms of Ebola are very similar to other tropical diseases, such as malaria.

It comes as the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the UK - a Scottish nurse - arrives in London for specialist medical care.

In a joint statement, the hospital and Public Health England said: "A patient has been admitted to Royal Cornwall Hospital and is currently undergoing a series of tests - one of which is for Ebola.

"We do not expect the results to be known for at least 24 hours and in the meantime the patient is being looked after in isolation, following nationally agreed guidelines and protocols to protect the health of our staff and other patients.

"Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust has been following national guidance around Ebola and made plans in line with advice from Public Health England and NHS England."

Bodies have been recovered near where the missing AirAsia plane went missing and a "shadow" has been spotted on the seabed.

The bodies - which were not wearing life jackets - have been brought on board a navy ship, said Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Director SB Supriyadi.

Local television broadcast pictures of the bodies floating in the sea.

"At 12:50 the air force Hercules found an object described as a shadow at the bottom of the sea in the form of a plane," said Mr Supriyadi.

The bodies were found about six miles (10km) from where the plane last communicated with air traffic control.

Ebola Patient Arrives At London Hospital

A nurse who fell ill after returning from Sierra Leone has arrived at a specialist infectious diseases unit in London.

Meanwhile, a second person in Scotland is being tested for Ebola, although the healthcare worker recently returned from West Africa is said to be "at low risk" of having the virus.

Another patient at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, has been placed in isolation and is also being tested for Ebola.

The Scottish nurse who has become the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the UK is to receive specialist medical care at the Royal Free Hospital.

The woman returned to Scotland after a spell working in Sierra Leone and arrived at Glasgow Airport on a British Airways flight at around 11.30pm on Sunday.

The patient - understood to have been volunteering for Save The Children - was admitted to hospital early on Monday after feeling unwell and was placed into isolation at 7.50am. She is in a stable condition.

She was isolated and received treatment in the specialist Brownlee Unit for Infectious Diseases on the Gartnavel Hospital campus, before the operation to move her by plane and RAF ambulance to the Royal Free Hospital in London began in the early hours.

Workers in full protection suits were seen loading her quarantine tent onto a military-style plane at Glasgow airport soon after a convoy of ambulances and police cars left Gartnavel.

The north London hospital's infectious diseases unit is run by a dedicated team of doctors and laboratory staff and access is restricted to trained medical staff.

A specially designed tent is set up around the patient's bed so the infection can be contained while they are treated.

Anyone who is at risk through contact with the patient in transit is to be contacted and closely monitored.

The unit successfully treated another British nurse, William Pooley, who was flown home from Sierra Leone in August after being diagnosed with Ebola.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has chaired a meeting of the Scottish Government Resilience Committee and has also spoken to Prime Minister David Cameron.

She said: "Our first thoughts at this time must be with the patient diagnosed with Ebola and their friends and family. I wish them a speedy recovery.

"Scotland has been preparing for this possibility from the beginning of the outbreak in West Africa and I am confident that we are well prepared."

She added in a news conference that the risk to other people is "extremely low to the point of negligible".

The woman travelled home via Casablanca and London Heathrow, spending around six hours in each airport before catching connecting flights.

She was vetted twice, in Sierra Leone and at Heathrow, without any signs of Ebola being detected.

Anyone who was on the Heathrow to Glasgow flight last night is asked to call 08000 858531.

Flight QZ8501: The Search Operation Explained

Written By Unknown on Senin, 29 Desember 2014 | 16.08

The disappearance of Flight QZ8501 has sparked a major search and rescue operation, with Indonesian authorities resuming their spotter flights after earlier bouts of bad weather.

Five planes, three helicopters, 12 navy ships and several warships have been deployed so far, and are currently searching the waters surrounding Belitung island in Indonesia, where the AirAsia passenger plane last made contact.

Other countries have also offered their resources to help recover the jet. Singapore has sent three naval vessels to scour the Java Sea, in addition to a C-130 Hercules plane.

An Orion surveillance plane from the Royal Australian Air Force has also left Darwin to join the search effort. Australia's Prime Minister Tony Abbott pledged his country would do "whatever we humanly can to assist".

The US and India have also expressed a willingness to help, along with officials from Britain and South Korea - two countries which have nationals on board the missing plane.

Any investigation into the disappearance of the AirAsia plane will focus on the aircraft's black box, which has a homing beacon that helps search teams find the jet.

Cockpit voice recorders and flight data will also provide clues about what happened after the flight lost contact with air traffic control just 42 minutes into the journey.

Although the plane was bound for Singapore, Flight QZ8501's last-known location was in Indonesian territory, prompting transport officials to confirm they would lead the investigation.

Stressing it has the expertise to develop an effective search strategy, a spokesman for the Indonesian Transport Ministry said: "Our primary task is to find the plane. We are cooperating with every possible department and relevant countries."

AirAsia's chief executive, Tony Fernandes, added: "We don't want to speculate. By now, of course, the plane has been missing for more than 12 hours and there is a deep sense of depression here.

"But we stay strong and our first priority now is to look after the families and do whatever we can."

The search effort has drawn comparisons to that of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which has not been found since it went missing in March.

There were 239 passengers and crew on board the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, and it is feared that the plane crashed in the remote Indian Ocean, far off the west coast of Australia.

Objects Spotted In Sea In Missing Plane Search

An Australian plane has spotted objects in the sea during the hunt for the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501, authorities have said.

Indonesian officials said the search team had made the discovery while searching for the jet which stopped communicating with air traffic control over the Java Sea in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It came after air force spokesman Hadi Tjahjanto said searchers were checking a report of an oil slick off the east coast of Belitung island, near where the plane lost contact.

He also said searchers had picked up an emergency locator signal off the south of Borneo island but had been unable to pinpoint it.

Earlier, the chief of Indonesia's search effort Bambang Soelistyo said that the missing AirAsia passenger plane "is likely at the bottom of the sea".

More than a dozen ships have been sent to the area to try to find the aircraft.

Australia, Singapore and Malaysia have deployed planes to assist in the Indonesian-led search.

The UK, France and the US have offered technology to assist in the search for debris, much of which may not be on the surface.

Search teams are currently scouring an area where the sea is 40-50 metres (130-160 feet) deep, Mr Soelistyo told journalists.

Distraught relatives spent the night in the Indonesian city of Surabaya hoping for news of loved ones.

One, who called herself Intan, called on Indonesia to ask for help from other countries, rather than try to carry out the search alone.

She said: "My hope is Indonesia seeks as much help as possible from other countries. Don't claim 'We have sophisticated technology', just ask other countries because they are better equipped.

"My prayer is I really, really hope that there will be news about the people on board. Whatever it is, what is important is we know where they are now."

Air traffic controllers lost contact with the twin-engine aircraft around an hour after it left Surabaya's Juanda international airport at about 5.35am on Sunday local time (10.35pm on Saturday, UK Time).

The flight had been on its way to Singapore and the pilot had asked for permission to fly higher to avoid bad weather but been refused due to heavy traffic in the area.

One Briton was among the 162 on board, with the rest from Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and France.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott pledged his country would do "whatever it humanly can to assist", but said what had happened was very different to the mystery surrounding the disappearance earlier this year of Malaysian Airlines plane MH370.

A senior Indonesian civil aviation source told Reuters that authorities were waiting for search and rescue teams to find debris before they started their investigation into the cause.

Several storm clouds were along the route of the flight, and Sunday's search for the Airbus A320 was hampered by heavy rain.
